Just stopping by

Every once in a while I feel like I owe it to myself to put a lil something up on the site.  During my twitter hiatus, I've kept myself busy with wedding planning so I've done a lot less blogging than I thought.  Right now I am trying to piece together what I'm going to blog about next.  Probably my boxes. I finally received both my CurlBox and my Birchbox.  More on those later.  Let's just say that I don't think I'll be a monthly subscriber to either.  But both have one more month to impress me before I make my final decision.

Oh before I forget, I managed to get my hair into a low side bun and while that may not be a big deal to some, I almost shed some tears today.  I'm gonna try to recreate a more polished version for work tomm and if all goes well it'll be up for someone to see.  

I really need to get on my blogging game b/c the ladies at work are telling me I need to. (Little do they know I kinda already do)

I know why it's so hard to me to update this blog. I'm so back and forth and all over the place that I lose focus of what I should be doing very quickly.  That makes for a bad blogger.  What is the solution to that? So I've finally decided to share a few of them with you guys.

It's been a while...

My last post was a long time ago and while I would like to say that you missed out on some things, you really haven't.  My hair had been twisted up for the last month and I don't know if I fell into a slump or something but I had no inspiration/motivation to get dressed.  Everything was very basic and not really worth posting but I would like to say that's over.  I woke up this morning dedicated myself to branching out.  I have a tendency of starting things and then letting them fall to the wayside.  So my birthday gift to myself (yep today's my birthday) is to take a chance and see how far I can push myself.

I did take the kinky twists out on Sunday nite and I just wanted to show a sneak peek of what Fro is looking like now.  I fall in love with her more and more everyday.

When I started this blog I wanted to address any and everything that interests me, so MeEntirely seemed like the perfect fit.  Flash forward to a year or so after starting to blog, I read the title and realized it came across super self-involved.  Spur of the moment,  I switched to StyleStage but in reality I hated it just as much.  After some thinking, it is about my loves, my interests, my thoughts, and interactions with my fellow naturalistas and fashionistas.  But the best way to convey all that is to give it my name.  (Ok not my given name but you get it)

I now introduce you to MARCYSUBURBS.

I hope to step my blogging game up; start some giveaways and features while still including all the content that kept you visiting in the first place.

Who is that girl in the first picture? She looks so familiar?

I know, I know it's a picture but I've been obsessing over the hair and looks of Le Coil since I was transitioning so when I was approached to take a picture, I felt like I had arrived! Plus it was on a bummy day & still got compliments! Hell Yes! So what my hair is tucked away, I couldn't be happier!

So...

Two things:

1. I forgot to charge my camera becfore heading to Charlotte so I have no hair pics aside from this pic I took of a "my braidout is failing me so now's a good time as any to try my first updo" on my Blackberry (which means the pic quality sucks)

2. My kinky twists are back because it's no-hassle and it's time to give my hair a protective style time-out

This video broke my heart. Seriously. Typically I get ready for work by watching some VH1 Soul. Now I had this song on my iPod but the video... I had to stop everything I was doing because it caught my attention. I blame it on hormones but I definitely shed a couple tears afterward. It's such a shame that people can't be who they truly are without being attacked and abused by people who don't necessarily agree with their lifestyle choices. Now I say this within reason, people could argue that being attracted to children is a lifestyle choice and to that I say "Fuck you." but when it comes to issues like interracial dating or homosexuality, I believe that you can't help who you love and as long as your don't harm anyone I'm all for it. That was my mini-rant... I could talk about it for a while and trust I have (my mother is against the both of them and apparently interracial adoption but I'm starting to learn more and more about my mom that I don't quite co-sign with)

Sidenote: I had to mention her gorgeous she looks in the video.  I love these big thick curls, I'm thinking a roller or a barrel curling iron got the job done, whether it's all hers or not.

SMDH

So my mother seriously does NOT like my hair and as much I brush off her negative comments, it's really annoying.  While my boyfriend was in town  for the holidays, he asked her how she felt about it and she replied, "I don't like it, that's not how I raised her."  Umm what?  I wasn't born with a relaxer.  I went 7 years with some kinky ass hair til I got that relaxer and yet for some reason she now thinks it's ugly.  It wasn't ugly when I was a child so what gives? She has even gone so far as to say that she wouldn't come to my wedding if my hair is like "that."  Whether she means it or not, I was furious.

I have tattoos and even those don't get all the negative, snarky remarks that my hair gets, which is really surprising to me.

I love my mother, she is one of the strongest women I know but as I go through this journey I realize how insecure she is and it's a little heartbreaking to be honest.  Part of the reason I went natural is to be an inspiration to girls, both my own and others.  I want to go into teaching and if I can help a girl with her esteem and let her know that she doesn't have to look like everyone else, I'll feel accomplished.  I don't want my daughter to come crying to me that she wants long straight hair because that's what all the other girls have.  I want to be my babies role model, just like she was to me.

How do you deal with the disapproval for the choices you have made?  Especially when it's something as harmless as the way you choose to wear your hair, your clothes?  How you choose to express yourself?

What's On Your Hair's Hoilday Wish List?

I'm starting to realize that the list of things my hair wants is longer than the list of things I want for myself.  She has a mind of her own I tell you.  Most of this stuff is pretty much useless right now because she's all tucked away in these kinky twists.  Unless I take them out like I'm planning on doing for the holidays.  I really miss her. I'm gonna take the Christmas/New Year holiday to let my hair breathe then send her away again.

I know these things are pretty cheap (aside from the steamer) but I can't buy them til I finish some of the stuff in my drawer.  FYI taking much longer than I expected!

Since I've Been Gone

After stuffing my face I decided to finally upload some pics and show you guys.  I tried a dark lip the other day and while I haven't perfected it, I love it.  These are pics from my friend's wedding celebration and some after Thanksgiving bonding with my boo.

Here's a close up of my face which I really debated puttin up because I don't entirely love it.  My issue: eyebrows (or lack thereof) My goal is to learn how to fake some eyebrows because I love thick gorgeous ones I'm just not capable of growing them.  I'll make sure I document those trials and errors. And if you have any suggestions, PLEASE SHARE.

Sheesh Already?!

I am rapidly approaching the 6 month mark of being natural and I couldn't be happier.  I get to do my "In __ months as a natural" post in a little less than 2 weeks*. Hopefully I'll be able to show a length update but my hair may be twisted by then.  I know I keep saying that but I may be in a hair show for my boyfriend's father so I can't twist it up just yet.  Although I thought I loved it before I really think I'm falling for my hair.  It's been fun experimenting and learning what my hair likes and dislikes.  If I were to experiment like this with a relaxer, I'd be bald headed by now.  By now, I'm starting to find what works for me and it shows.  I can't wait to see what my hair is like when I hit the 1 year mark.  Stay tuned, I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoy doing this and please if there's anything you want to know or want me to talk about, don't hesitate to ask in the comments.

*I've decided to save it for 6 month intervals, doing it every month is overkill and I want to be able to notice a difference in growth/appearance

Product Overload

... is a HUGE problem.  I didn't realize I had so much stuff.  So I've made a promise to myself and my bank account, in order for me to buy any new product I must finish 2 bottles of something that's in my drawer.  The problem is sometimes I alternate so much it's hard to finish anything.  I had been eyeing Yes to Carrots and Yes to Cucumbers but that's gonna have to wait. :(

There's nothing like a good no-fuss lazy day.  One of those days where I had to be comfortable and didn't wanna be bothered with anything but I knew I had errands to run.  I used to think I had to do my hair every time I went out, but my hair's starting to get to a length where I can pull it back (sorta) and throw a hat on (I'm cheesing as I write that.)  Of course I'm sharing this pics, nothing special just me on a bummy day.

Finally Henna-ing

So on Friday I was out for Fashion's Night Out here in the city.  And trust just walking around SoHo was a fashion show.  People were dressed to impress for sure.  And although I loved my outfit my hair was NOT behaving at all.  AT ALL!  Therefore my pics may not see the light of day (I did get to take one with my blog idol, Angel of Concrete Loop though.) Something about my hair just didn't feel right.  It's not that it didn't feel moisturized it just didn't act right, which got me thinking that maybe I've been moisturizing a little too much.  Now I don't know if that's the reason why but hey, gives me a reason to try my henna gloss that I've had in the freezer so why not?!  Plus I'm super lazy and don't feel like going out to watch the big Penn State/Alabama game at a bar so I'm gonna use game time to hang out and chill w/ my henna and a shower cap.  I'll follow up tomm.  Oh and...

Camera Shy

Decided to have a little fun with my camera today, it's been a while.  Plus you can see how the hair's holding up.

 

 

 

It was a wet, dreary day out here in New York but I'm not ready to part with my summer clothes just yet so I threw on my favorite summer dress with a denim shirt, some tights, & military boots.  I really like the look of this feminine ruffle, floral dress with rugged boots.

The hair's still pretty good to me, I should be able to push it til after Labor Day without looking a hot mess.

Now personally I find HETT more moisturizing than HEHH was but that's my opinion.
