Fall Trend #10: Camel

Last but not least, the perfect color for the workplace; it goes with so much and looks so sophisticated.

Fall Trend #7: Cross-body Bags

Whether it's for back to school or everyday use, find a bag size that suits your needs.

Product Review: Suave Almond & Shea Butter Conditioner

This is the second product I needed to review after my Target visit.  Throughout my transition I heard such good things about Suave conditioners; how well it moisturized and how cheap it was.  Yes and yes!  Especially the cheap part.  I absolutely want something that works but I run through conditioners pretty quickly because I pile it on while co-washing so I don't wanna shell out $15 or more for something that will be finished in 3 weeks. This cost me maybe $2.50.

The first thing I'll comment on is the smell... There barely is one.  Now for the ladies who can't stand a strong smelling product, this is for you.  I had used my Miss Jessie's Super Sweetback so my hair just smells like bubble gum.  I didn't have to deal with 2 competing scents which is good.

Now, how does it work: The consistency is a lot thinner than I would have thought but the slip is meh.  I had no problems detangling my hair except in the dreaded crown area.  After stepping out the shower and continuing to throw in my leave-in, oils, and what not, the fro still felt decent but i couldn't see the definition that I usually see after stepping out of the shower.  Loss of cool points.

It's supposed to be cheaper alternative to Aveda Dry Remedy (which was suggested to be for my dry hair but the price turned me off) but I haven't tried that yet so I don't know how it works in comparison.

I gotta say... I like it, I don't love it, it may not be a staple but it is something I know will work if all else fails.

My verdict: 2/5

Product Review: Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque

It's that time again... Time to wash my hair.  The weeks are flying by this summer and I don't like it.  Anyway this week I'm reviewing Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque*.  In case you haven't heard, I LOVE Shea Moisture products so I have very high expectations for this.  When I opened the jar, mmm smells like cake batter. It's really thick like a pudding or custard which I like because I don't have to worry about conditioner running down my face.

After sitting under the dryer for 45 minutes and rinsing it out, I have to say I wasn't "wowed."  It was ok.  I mean I think I can add oil and honey to any of my cheapie conditioners and turn it into a better DC than this.  Don't get me wrong.  My hair felt soft but I know it has felt better. I love the the fact that my hair smelled like cake batter for a day or 2 (I think the mosquitoes did too because they had a field day with me) but for $10 a jar I'm not quite sure if it's worth it.  Of course it's not fair for me to write it off like that so I will try it again, but right now I'm more impressed with the Miss Jessie's. Now I also hear it can be used as a leave-in so maybe I'll try it that way and see if that's a better way to use it.

My (tentative) verdict: 3/5

*There are some jars that say SMORSB Restorative Smoothie, I don't know if they're the same and that's just the old name for it.

Fall Trend #4: Makeup

Fall 2010 makeup is about smoky brown eyes, vibrant eyeshadows along the lash line, deep plum/burgundy lips and minimalist makeup. These, to me, are contradictions to each other but allows plenty of opportunity to go from barely there to bold and in your face.

Fall Trend #3: Pearls

Not your girlie, ultra feminine take on pearls though.  These take a edgy turn with chains and metal accessories.

Fall Trend #2: Velvet

Now personally, I'm not crazy about velvet.  Not gonna lie, something about the texture makes me cringe.  But it is coming back.  If you don't mind the feeling (I'm shuddering even thinking about it,) here are some options

Fall Trend #1: Military

Summer's flying by and stores are starting to bring out the long sleeves and boots, so in order to get a head start on what to look forward to this fall I'm going to post a sneak peek of what to look for next season.  And the best part? Anything I post will be under $100 :)

First up, don't pack away any military-style items you wore in the spring because it will still be relevant in the fall.  I already posted some ideas for military clothing but here are a few more options to get you started if you haven't already:

Grey (Hair) Matter

My 20-ehm birthday is rapidly approaching which I'm happy about.  That is, until I saw 4 new grey hairs on the right side of my head, in the front.  NO GOOD!  This got me thinking that I might try a henna treatment in the near future.

For anyone that doesn't know, henna is a plant whose dye is used for hair, skin or fabrics among other things.  When used in hair, it strengthens hair, thicken, adds shine, conditions and depending on what you have and your initial hair color, will deposit some color.  There's a whole world when it comes to henna and as I explore some of them I'll get more in depth.  My biggest concern is how dry it will leave my hair.  That's the major complaint I hear.  I have naturally dry hair so I do everything I possibly can to keep it well moisturized and hearing that henna can be drying is what's turned me off.

But the grey must go!

I don't really need the rest of my fro to be colored I just am not ready to see grey hair yet.  My friend has some Lush henna so I'm gonna give that a try soon and Butters-N-Bars is having a sale so I'm gonna pick up some of the powdered henna so I can compare and contrast.

Up Close and Personal

Sorry if this grosses you out a little but I know that it's a little hard to see my hair texture in pics so I took hair out of my Denman.  Yeah you can say "Eww".  My hair is definitely a Type 4 if you believe in the whole hair typing system.  My hair is very coily, similar to a spring from a pen.  If it's not stretched it can wrap around itself like you may be able to see in the picture.  Theses coils makes it prone to all types of knots and tangles.  That's why I stretch it out and stay away from wash and gos.  Maybe when it gets longer but for now my stretched styles are just fine.

Bruno Mars- The Other Side

Bruno Mars is easily becoming one of my favorite new artists.

Shrinkage

When I say shrinkage is no joke for me, I mean it!

Just figured I'd share a few pics of how small my fro can really get.

Cute, isn't it? :(
